Los Primos Cantina

More Mr. Serious Than Before

It's been two years since first witnessing the preposterous portions provided by Los Primos in Costa Mesa and Huntington Beach.

I don't usually republish emailed photos or stories, but this specimen, named Mr. Serious, is always worthy of special attention. Many thanks to Mandy who sent in the photo.

Yes, it's actually called 'Mr. Serious' on the menu.

Best Condiment Couple Ever

Allow me to present lightly fried members of the pepper and onion families. Similar to the famous pair that appears on pizzas (maybe even at Romano's Pizza), this couple is served as a free garnish along side your burrito at Los Primos.

If any chefs are reading this, please take note.

Technical Difficulty

Due to a critical lack of focus on behalf of my camera, you'll just have to pretend that this burrito looks better than the picture suggests.

I had the regular carnitas burrito (which gets made with a steamed tortilla!) with refried beans.

While the technical failure ruined the photo, my meal was unharmed.

This Los Primos Cantina meal was rated: 7.8.

You Can't Be Mr. Serious

Ray had warned me about the famed, "Mr. Serious" burrito at Los Primos. I had no idea until I saw for myself.

The picture doesn't represent its true size. It wasn't my burrito, and I felt rude enough photographing a stranger's food, so I didn't get the nickel as close to the burrito as I should have. Amazingly, the nickel is in the foreground.

This was by far the biggest burrito I've ever seen as a regular menu item. Seriously.

Welcome To Los Primos Cantina

Everyone has their favorite burrito spot. While on a flight to Sarasota, I met a local burrito expert we'll call, "Ray." And Ray was extremely passionate about burritos in his home town.

Well, aren't we all. But Ray had some serious conviction behind his words, so I went to go check it out.

Los Primos Cantina has two locations in Southern California, one in Costa Mesa (Map) and one in Huntington Beach (Map).

Unlike most spots I've hit in Los Angeles, Los Primos uses a steamer to heat its tortillas. That's key.

With Ray's recommendation, the steamer, and the decent sized line, I knew this was going to be good.
